It's opening day at the New Sydney Fish Market!

After years in the making, the New Sydney Fish Market officially opens today — and it's a pretty special moment for Sydney.

Now the largest fish market in the southern hemisphere, the market brings retail, tourism and wholesale together under one very impressive roof. Home to fishmongers, restaurants, cafés and specialty vendors, the space is buzzing — full of that familiar fish market energy, paired with views that really need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated.

Speaking of views, the market is wrapped by 6,000sqm of outdoor public space, overlooking the harbour in three directions, with the Anzac Bridge right there reminding you that you're very much in Sydney… preferably with seafood in hand. This $836 million development is expected to welcome around 6 million visitors each year, making it not just a market, but a true waterfront destination.

On a personal note, I've been proud to work for my client Sydney Fish Market, alongside Essence Project Management, as Tenancy Co-ordinator for the Grandfathered tenancies — supporting long-standing operators as they move from the old market into this next chapter. Helping carry decades of history, knowledge and character into a very contemporary (and very complex) new building has been no small task, but a hugely rewarding one both professionally and personally.

A new Sydney landmark is officially open — now excuse me while I go and celebrate the only appropriate way… with a seafood feast and a sneaky midday glass of wine 🐟🍤🍷
